In the UK, disabled people do not have to pay VAT when buying certain disability aids and services (This can be claimed by friend or family member purchasing on their behalf). Not everything supplied to disabled people is necessarily zero-rated for VAT. Goods and services on which you do not have to pay VAT are usually known as 'zero-rated' or 'eligible for VAT relief'.is
Quickie Salsa M2 Power Wheelchair.The Quickie Salsa M2 Power Wheelchair delivers exceptional indoor manoeuvrability as well as incredible outdoor performance. Its excellent indoor manoeuvrability is thanks to its mid-wheel drive technology, which allows it to be able to turn on its own axis, resulting in an extra small turning circle. The base has very compact dimensions with the aim that it provides greater access and control for the user through confined spaces and narrow doorways. Additionally, it easily fits under low tables and into vehicles with its lower than ever before seat to floor height. When using outdoors the individual is delivered a stable and smooth ride with its anti-pitch technology and Quickie’s all-wheel suspension. All six wheels of the power wheelchair are suspended independently which easily absorb all the rough journeys. Pitching on slopes have been prevented by the anti-pitch technology and greater all-round outdoor performance is provided by the position of the seat being directly over the drive wheel which results in higher traction. This Sunrise wheelchair features an assertive stance, streamline design and its shroud comes in 4 colours. All standard features that come included with the Quickie Salsa M2 Power Wheelchair are listed in the product specification below and additional features can be added to ensure that all personal requirements are being met.Product Specification:One Salsa M2 Power Wheelchair4 colours availableCustomisable Quickie wheelchairSunrise wheelchair is personally fitted to each individualSwing away front or mounted footboard as standardFully adjustable seat frame and firm seat board as standardMechanical fixed and angle adjustable recline back as standardStandard push handle and tension adjustable sling backrest as standardStandard armpad and height and angle adjustable flip-up armrest as standardFixed centre mount legrests and flip-up footboards or swing away legrests as standardVR2 70Ah controller with mounted swing away controller as standardLap belt as standard60 Ah battery and 8 Ah charger as standardMid wheel drive base and 6 independent suspension as standard 13" solid or pneumatic drive wheels as standard Seat width minimum: 410mm (16")Seat width maximum: 510mm (20")Seat depth minimum: 410mm (16")Seat depth maximum: 510mm (20")Overall width minimum: 600mm (24")Overall width maximum: 660mm (26")Maximum speed: 4ph (6kph)Battery size: 60AhBattery box to ground clearance: 65mm (2.5")Maximum range: miles 20 miles (32km)Turning radius maximum: 67mm (3")Maximum kerb climb:70mm (3")Chair weight: from 120kg (19st)Maximum user weight: 140kg (22st)

Who is eligible for VAT relief?
You must be 'chronically sick or disabled' to qualify for VAT relief. The HMRC comment on this is as follows. A person is 'chronically sick or disabled' if they either:
have a physical or mental impairment that has a long-term and severe effect on their ability to carry out everyday activities;
have a condition that doctors treat as a chronic sickness - like diabetes, for example;
are terminally ill
VAT Relief on our Disability Aids
All products on the Aids for Mobility website are flagged with an option to claim VAT relief during Checkout if it applies to that item. When you add a zero-rated product or service to your Basket, you will be asked to tick a checkbox to confirm that you, or the person for whom you are buying the item, are eligible for VAT Relief.
How VAT relief works
If you are claiming VAT Relief you will be asked to complete an extra few questions during Checkout, where we will ask you to provide brief details of your disability and confirmation that the product is for 'personal or domestic use'. We will keep a record of this declaration along with your order details. You can then buy the product(s) in your Basket at a price that excludes VAT. You will be asked to make this declaration each time you place an order that includes zero-rated products. It is a legal requirement that we record this information for every order, and we apologise for the inconvenience.
