How to Organize Your Medication

Taking several medications each day can quickly become confusing. Everyone has much more going on in their life than just worrying about their medications. To prevent mishaps, such as forgetting to take a pill or taking one twice, it is essential to set up a medication management system.  

You can easily manage your medications using the following four tips:  

  1. The first thing that you want to do for yourself is make a list of all of the medications that you take. Include the name of the medicine, the strength, how many times you have to take it, any special requirements, such as with or without food, and which doctor prescribed the medicine. This gives you a visual representation of your medications that you can check whenever there is a question. This is also a very handy tool to give to your doctor or your pharmacist to make sure that you are not taking conflicting medications. It is also a beneficial tool for your family so that they know what you take in the event of an emergency.  
  2. Purchase A Pill Organizer. A great way to manage all of your pills is to sit down and physically sort them out each day. A pill organizer can be purchased that will allow you to sort medications for a week or more at a time. You can also purchase ones that allow you to separate the medications by times of the day that you need to take the pills. Using an organizer is the simplest way to make sure that you have all your medications each day.  
  3. Check Labels Weekly. You will want to check your medication labels and content at least once a week. This helps protect you against taking medications that may expire or from running out of important prescriptions. If you see that you are getting low, call your pharmacy or schedule an appointment with your doctor so that you do not go without your medications.  
  4. Use an App. If you are tech-savvy, there are several different apps that you can load to your phone or tablet that will alert you when it is time to take your medication, refill your prescription, or alert you to potential issues of mixing medications.  

 Another way to protect yourself when you take multiple medications each day is to make sure that you take them around the same time each day. Some medications are on extended release or may only work for a specific period of time. These medications must be taken around the same time each day so that the medication levels can provide you with the most relief.  Perhaps you can set a timer on a smartphone to help remind you.

In the UK, disabled people do not have to pay VAT when buying certain disability aids and services (This can be claimed by friend or family member purchasing on their behalf). Not everything supplied to disabled people is necessarily zero-rated for VAT. Goods and services on which you do not have to pay VAT are usually known as 'zero-rated' or 'eligible for VAT relief.

Who is eligible for VAT relief?

You must be 'chronically sick or disabled' to qualify for VAT relief. The HMRC comment on this is as follows. A person is 'chronically sick or disabled' if they either:

All products on the Aids for Mobility website are flagged with an option to claim VAT relief during Checkout if it applies to that item. When you add a zero-rated product or service to your Basket, you will be asked to tick a checkbox to confirm that you, or the person for whom you are buying the item, are eligible for VAT Relief.

How VAT relief works

If you are claiming VAT Relief you will be asked to complete an extra few questions during Checkout, where we will ask you to provide brief details of your disability and confirmation that the product is for 'personal or domestic use'. We will keep a record of this declaration along with your order details. You can then buy the product(s) in your Basket at a price that excludes VAT. You will be asked to make this declaration each time you place an order that includes zero-rated products. It is a legal requirement that we record this information for every order, and we apologise for the inconvenience.
